Paul McCartney originally it was meant to comfort John Lennon's son Julian and his first wife and the song was orignially titled "Hey Jules" Paul McCartney then changed it to Jude because he thought it sounded a bit better.

I personally like "Let It Be" much better.

No it wasnt about Sean Lennon, he wasnt even born. Paul wrote it to John's son Julian, when John and Cynthia (his 1st wife) were breaking up, because of Yoko Ono. Julian was just a little boy and Paul was close to him. His nickname was Jude.

I heard somwhere that it is about Sean Lennon, John Lennons son by his first wife. I t was told that Paul Mc Cartney and Sean had a close relationship and the song was written when Sean was having a bad day. Weather this is true or not, I don't know.
After reading a few other posts I have come to the conclusion I was way off. I admit it. I was wrong. Second mistake I have made all day.

This song was written for John Lennon's son, Julian by his first wife. (Sean is his and Yoko Ono's son)
It was written when he started his relationship with Yoko so that Julian wouldn't feel so bad about it all.
Great song!
