I see single welfare moms sitting on their duffs, yakking on their CELL PHONE all day long.
They are putting welfare money on their incarcerated husbands'/boyfriends' books.
They are high on drugs all the while.
Not ALL of them live this way,but a good portion of them do.
The sole reason they are getting these funds(their children)end up getting short-changed by this government subsidized behavior. Why does this continue on a large scale ?

By the way, this happens among ALL races.

I believe it is because we all have free will. Obviously this example you give is not the best or the economical way to go. These people are making the decision by their choices to always remain just exactly where they are. Just getting by.. The only thing we have control over is the choices we make so in the end we are our choices.

The government sets guidelines as to who meets the guidelines for monetary assistance. But, the government cannot rule over how this money is spent. It seems that you do have to work harder to stay on assistance these days. I remember a few years ago when I was looking for a job at the employment office that there were a couple of people there for resume classes because they were required to attend classes so they could continue to receive their check. These two ladies made me believe that they were just there to meet the requirements and did not even work on a resume.

I like at the end where you said that this happens among all the races because you had not indicated a race in your example. I guess people will bring their answers to your questions with their own prejudices.

Public assistance really is pretty tightly regulated these days--much more than it used to be.

Of course there are still some who try to cheat the system in one way or another. The solution is not increased regulation; rather, we should take steps to ensure that all jobs pay a living wage and all people have health insurance. With the way things are now, you would be an idiot to trade in "welfare" benefits for a minimum wage job. Read the book "Nickled and Dimed" to get an idea of what the working poor actually go through, and you will never complain about welfare cheats again.

What would you think should be done, then? Should they stand up all the time, stay off the phone, tell their criminal bf/husband no, abstian from drugs, and tend to their kids,so they can qualify under your standards? For that matter, where were you when you saw these people and were appalled by them?
Welfare is not that easy to get onto since they stopped cash assistance and cut food stamps and Medicaid. I've been denied for having a car valued over the limit, some bonds my kids inherited, not applying to other agencies for assistance on utilities, and working for more than $23 a week. Recently they've started denying people with pending SSI cases. Do you really think they need more rules to lay on people?

Because so many people are on it that should not be the cases are overloaded and it would cost to much to try to prove. My Neighbor drove a SC400 Lexas, on kid support from 2 ex's, had welfare coming in from 2 states, allowed to work 20 hrs a week and keep housing allowance and food stamps. Estimated value of income $6000 month. Sure report her. They dance around investigations so well. Case workers dont have the time and mostly dont care.

Because society creates this dependency. Here
are your choices:
A. Get a job at minimum wages, no housing or healthcare for your children.

B. Stay on welfare receiving a check, food card, medical insurance, and public housing.

The drugs are simply a way to dull the pain of having to live their lives the way they live. Why do you think drug dealers will eventually become drug users? Same circumstance, same environment.

How do you know they are welfare moms? How do you know that they also have land lines? Have you ever talked to them? Do you know anything about welfare regulations?

Anyway, Yahoo Answers isn't the place to go if you really want to do something about welfare moms. You can get a job as a compliance officer.

Well, that is your Government taxes at work. The people in charge just don't want to get involved.
