My son was 9lbs and 4 ounces when he was born. He is 10 weeks now and weighs 16 lbs. The doctor says he's just fine, but I'm still worried.

Babies are fairly good at regulating when they want to eat-- I am assuming you are worried that you are over feeding him and this is somehow causing him to be overweight? Well, what you failed to mention was how long he is. Because my baby was 8lbs 13oz at birth and at 8 weeks old he was 15 lbs 12 oz and almost 25 inches long, so of course he weighs more than most babies his age. My doctor never had a concern. My baby is now 6 months old and is still in the upper 90th percentiles but his growth is slowing down (instead of being in 98th percentile he is in 95). And I'm sure by age 1 he will have "grown into" his weight, so to speak. Also, every baby develops differently and I'm sure your baby is within healthy range. Whomever suggested that your doctor should be sued for malpractice was being a jerk because there are more babies than you know tipping the scales at this weight. My baby was that weight and he was in no way fat or even chubby. I look at pictures of back then and think, wow, he was so little.

Also, if you were overfeeding your baby, he would tell you so by having excessive diarrhea and spitting up a lot. Don't worry about it. If you're really that worried you could always go see a different doctor, but unless your baby is having health problems I don't personally think it is necessary. I hope this helps.

I also want to point out that it is a blessing to have a healthy and thriving baby. So don't worry yourself too much! Take care.

Odd how the ridiculous "flint" guy is the only one without a thumbs down...and
Oscar, she needs to see a different doctor before it's too late for what? Obviously the baby can still fit into doorways so I don't know what she may be "too late" for...

Either way, WOW. My daughter is 4 months old and 13.5 pounds and EVERYONE keeps saying how chunky she is:(. It's super annoying cause she is breastfed and I can't really control how her weight is at this point...she eats when she is hungry and isn't on any other food yet anyway.

Anyway, like the thumbsdown people, I agree that if your doctor says it's fine than it's fine.

Well you shouldn't have started feeding him steaks so early, lol. I am just kidding. Don't worry about it right now. My daughter was a plump little baby and even my second baby too. As they start to crawl and then walk they will work that off. When babies try to lift themselves up and stuff it really takes a toll on them because it is so much harder for them. It takes every ounce of their strength. Just keep feeding the baby when it is hungry and it will be fine. Fat babies are cute babies. Just don't start feeding him cereal until four months because before that their body just stores the food and doesn't break it down so they will end up putting on more weight.

I wouldn't worry too much. Mine is 18 weeks and only weights 14.5 lbs. Doctor says he is fine just a little on the lighter side. So, I wouldn't worry.

http://www.kid2do.com/pdf/BOYSbirth_36months1.pdf to find the growth chart. Your son is a little bit underweight. By daughter was the same and i really had a hard time qrowing her up. She would sleep all the time. Also my choice for baby bottle wasnt that great. Very difficult to suck the milk out. For my second daughter i have chosen another brand, much better for the baby. Try finding a way to make him drink more milk. I was pulling and pushing the baby bottle, like a pumping the milk into the mouth.

If the doctor says he's fine...then believe him...That is a perfectly normal weight...He sounds like a big boy!

My youngest daughter didn't gain an ounce between her two month check up and her four. That was something to worry about. I just wasn't making enough milk to satisfy her. *frown*

But babies do grow on their own schedule...and she fattened up in no time...

kiss that fat neck of his....you'll love it! :)

Sounds normal to me. My son was born 6 lbs 12 oz and at his 2 weeks check up was already 12 lbs.

The doctor is right, he's a baby, he doesn't do any physical activity so he has no real way to burn off those calories. Once he gets mobile he'll stop gaining weight so rapidly. It's not a problem.

Your baby is fine.

My son was 9 lbs 7 oz. and he'd been above the 100th percentile until about 5 or 6 months. He's always been very healthy & strong.
