There's no spell checker for your search. So, if you can't spell what you're trying to look up, you have to go somewhere else first to discover the spelling. (I usually use Yahoo since they spell check their searches.)

The fact that the information is only as accurate as the person who entered it. The information is easily changed, and the person changing it may really think s/he has more accurate info, or it could be that the person is doing it malicously. There is no way to know really how accurate an article is, because there are no checks and balances like there are with other encyclopedias, or "official" web sites of organizations, museums, universities, etc.

I would use the site for a general overview, but I would not swear by the information contained therein, and would definitely not use it as a source for a school paper or project. It is my understanding that many colleges and universities are not allowing Wikipedia to be used as a source for the very reasons I listed above.

Just because you read something on the Internet, doesn't mean it's true.

Uneven enforcement of editing standards. Many editors of Wikipedia articles are biased and opinionated in some way.

And the views that prevail in Wikipedia articles often depend on which editor is more persistent and determined to make his or her views prevail over those of others.

Wikipedia is a good place to start one's research because its articles give you many details and ideas that you can check out and find other references for. But it's not reliable enough to be believed on its own without confirmation from other sources.

I love Wikipedia. It's a great way to get quick information on public knowledge. The volunteers do a great job for editing for accuracies. Don't forget to check your sources. Considering the source is key. What is the motivation of the source? For profit? How educated is the source. Does the content seem reasonable? It is the most current available information.

Anyone can change it, so people can put whatever they want into an article. and by whatever they want, I mean anything from cool facts to outrageous lies. that is why you should not use Wikipedia when you are doing a research project and you know absolutely nothing about what you are researching. It can be inaccurate, even though some articles can have a lot of good information.

One time when I was there, I got a notice that I tried to change the content on a page and that I was doing something that was like vandalism. I wasn't editing anything at the time. I wanted to contact them and let them know what happened, but I couldn't find a link to leave a message.

a lot of things you have to spell exactly right in order to get the results you want. For example, if you want to look up something like hydrogen peroxide, but you accidentally forget the r and type in "hydrogen peoxide", you wont get any article. Even if you press search, you don't get any article. Yahoo or google would be able to tell that you just made a minor error when typing in the words, and it would correct it for you.

I hate how teachers act like wiki is full of crap. Yeah, one time I looked up the moon on wiki and got a page long description on how it's made of cheese, and Panic! at the Disco's page always says Jon Walker pwns the world, but seriously, I go to wiki for everything, and I wish people would appreciate what a great resource it is.

Nothing. Wikipedia is an awesome resource. But it is a take-it or leave-it sort of overview.

Good luck

The only thing I find "annoying" is that it's addictive. I often look up one thing and end up on something completely different through link-hopping.
