it depens or where your at if its the toolbar up by the address bar the you click the drop down menu and click clear history. If your talking about on the google website where you type it in. You hit the arrow key down till one of the searches you have made has the blue background then you hit the delete key or on a laptop del. you have to do it for every search but it gets the job done. now it take it out of the address drop down menu you go to tools, internet options, then click delete cookies, delete file, and delete history and your address drop down menu will be clean also.

by deleting the history you do remove the search box items, but not the backup files. you can also delete the "cookies" which are sort of like backup internet files/pages/searchs/etc. Using IE(internet explorer) im not to sure on how to remove them (GO Search in yahoo) but for firefox press ctrl-shift-delete and check the "remove cookies" and the "history" boxes and say ok

If you use Internet Explorer 7.0, go to the file menu and click on Tools....then Internet Options......
Under Browsing History......click Delete and a new window will open. Delete Cookies, Temporary Internet File and History. History is what holds that info in your browser, but it won't hurt to delete the others.
If you use another version of Internet Explorer, go to Tools...Internet Options and click on Delete History.
To prevent it in the future, Go to Internet options and click on Settings....then you can set your history to ZERO days to store websites.

In Mozilla Firefox:
Go to Tools | Options and click on the Privacy tab. In the Private Data section, click the "Clear Data Now..." button. You can also select to not remember such data in that section.

In Internet Explorer:
Go to Tools | Internet Options and click on the General tab. Click on the "Delete" button in Browsing History.

I use plain old internet explorer, and when it's open, you go to Tools, then Internet Options, and then Clear History. That's it.
