Menstrual blood is odorless in the vagina. It begins to get an odor when it hits the air and mixes with bacteria. It's normal for there to be an odor at this point. If the odor continues after your period is over, then you should see a doctor to rule out an infection.

disclaimer "I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose" - Yes, menstrual blood does have a smell. Blood has a smell. Menstrual blood is old blood that has been sitting in your uterus for a month so occasionally the smell is stronger. You probably are the only one that notices yourself though. If you notice a foul odor that your concerned about you may have a infection and it is better to seek a face to face evaluation w/ a doctor. If you think you could have an infection, don't let it go. It has the ability to affect your fertility and cause problems down the line. Almost all vaginal/uterine infections are easily treated. If the smell is minor and only like blood, consider scented ob pads, pantyliners, scented tampons, and clean well at the end of each day. Good luck and happy menstruating. Be patient....it will come to an end.

If you keep on the same maxi pads then you'll smell I suggest change it no longer than 2-3 hrs at a time and that have some feminine spray that maybe you could check in the store and ask questions about afterwards. After the cycle is finished.

Lol first of all I was like WHAT THE HELL then read your other questions and figured it out...doesnt your dad mind you using his account?
Yes it is normal. Blood has a smell to it, and menstrual blood mixes with bacteria when it leaves the vagina, so this makes it smell more. Using tampons means not as much of the smell will come out, and you could try baby wipes too.
Good luck

It is mostly blood. Why would it not smell that way?
Actually, it's sterile as it leaves your body, as is urine. But you cannot avoid various bacteria, etc., and when they begin to break down your flow or any other bodily fluid, the result is a smell of some type.

I can sometimes smell it but my boyfriend always smells it and it really gets to him..he hates it.
Here's the best thing to do: wipe with baby wipes or the playtex wipes. they clean well and are scented.
If you use pads- change them everytime they come in contact with air- so everytime you go to the washroom.
If you use tampons- don't leave them in for more than 4 hours.

You're a boy and have your period? I think you should be more concerned about that, than the smell.

You probably have a lot of iron in your blood. And Yes, that is normal.
So long as you shower daily and use deoderant, you should be fine.
