There is a bit of pain, just a little pinch. Afterwards, there is some soreness for a couple days, but it isn't as bad as cramps.

The pap smear and pelvic exam is physically uncomfortable. Fortunately, it only lasts about 2 minutes.

The pap smear tests for abnormal cells which could lead to cervical cancer. The rest of the pelvic exam checks the overall health of your reproductive organs.

you do not want a pap smear in case you're a virgin. in case you're or have been sexually energetic then i've got self assurance the cautioned age in usa of america is eighteen (dealing with what human beings on right here have mentioned). in the united kingdom it is 25. Pap smears seem for Cervical Intra-epithelial Neoplasia (CIN) that's the pre-cancerous replace that happens in the cells taken out of your cervix. you will not get CIN devoid of having had Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in some unspecified time sooner or later, as particular strains of this virus are the foremost clarification for cervical maximum cancers. maximum sexually energetic women human beings will contract HPV at a while, often devoid of ever realising. in case you have on no account been sexually energetic, you will not have shrunk HPV so probabilities of having CIN are very almost nil. it is important to choose for pap smears each and every 2 or 3 years as quickly as you have had intercourse.

It is understandable that you are scared, I was too! I was around 15 when I had my first pap. Im not going to lie it is a little awkward, but if your gynocolgist is anything like mine they will talk you through it and explain what they are doing. The only discomfort that you will feel is that you may experience abdominal cramping! nothing more than a cramp you would feel if you were on your period!

Good Luck and Relax

It's quite normal to be scared but there really is nothing to it. You will do fine. Pick a spot on the ceiling and concentrate on that spot and it will be over with before you know it. Just try to relax as much as possible and don't tense up because that makes it painful.

It does not hurt.

It certainly isn't the most pleasant experience in the world, however it is necessary.

Don't worry about it, we all go through it many many times through life. Just remember the doctor has seen it all before. They have done it a million times. It is completely painless, just a little uncomfortable.
