I can say he's been Bullied in School but used music and Violence control his Sitution, well Tom Petty turned out okay, the Bully is just another Asshole in the Real World.

Yes. When he sang, "Even the losers get lucky sometimes," I knew this was indeed the case. He's a real poet, the kind of guy who tries to mask himself as a "Refugee" and a "Free Falling" kind of guy, but all the while says "I Won't Back Down".
Bob Dylan, Bruce Sprinsteen, Kurt Cobain - all cut from the same cloth.
The only (great) major rocker I can think of who was a real tough guy in high school was John Lennon, but we all know he was really "Crippled Inside".
