I am planning on buying a Compaq presario with 512 mb. and 120 g.b. 7200 rpm. will that be enough to play, the sims 2 it needs 3 g.b.

I'd get a PC with atleast 1GB of RAM on it and make sure the CPU (processor) is fast enough, and as well as the video card that comes with it, make sure it's a good one for games, preferably 64MB of video RAM or more

yes but try and get maximum memory say 2GM instead of 512mb (if ur budget allows) then you can play any game with out screen freeze up.
