They do just fine as the only fish of their type in a tank. Your new fish is just doing what many new fish do, hiding until it's comfortable. Give it a few days and it will be swimming around happy.

Mollies are very social and should be kept in groups. Try getting a few friends for your Molly. They will get along with other fish but a lone Molly may tend to hide like yours is currently doing.

No mollies do not need other mollies. They are social fish. Sounds like your new addition is just a bit shy. I think he/she will be fine in a day or two.

They do better as a small group. Although many argue that mollies are not a schooling fish, they are found schooling in the wild. I always had at least 3.

They prefer to be kept in harems (a few females to one male) but the reason it's hiding is because it's in new surroundings.

You should see the molly out and about in a couple of days :)

mollies are social shoaling fish, so they'll need some companions too. with more females than males though.
but in time they'll get along with the other species...
