My eyes burn all the time, to the point I look like Im crying. It just happens randomly like 3 or 4 times a day. I dont even touch my eyes I will just be working or walking outside and it starts burning. It happens in the winter to so im not sure if its allergies. So to get to my question does this happen to anyone else and what do you think is the cause, its been happening for quite a few years and im getting tired of it. I get yearly eye exams and the Dr has never said anything to me.

you could have a bad case of DRY EYE SYNDROME..... I have it---my symptoms are exactly like yours....my eyes got so dry though that I couldn't produce tears.... I was given drops (Restasis) from my eye specialist and I had the drainage ducts of both eyes (4 places in the inside corners of the eye) burned shut...THAT wasn't fun.... years and years of drops and the condition is finally subsided....it's still not good and I still get abrassions on my corneas which burn like crazy (little cuts from the corneas being too dry and they crack much like a mudpuddle when it dries up).... Try using some of those store bought tears ... you can use them whenever your eyes burn until you see the eye doctor and ask if you have abrassions or edema of the cornea... otherwise, it might just be an allergy to maybe even something as silly as the elastic in your underwear.... HONEST...

Wow, I'm so glad to see your question. I have been having a similar experience but my husband (who's a pharmacist) swears it's allergies. People think I'm crying all the time as well even though it's only my left eye that is releasing the tears. I can be indoors or out. I've noticed if I don't touch my eye and let the tears dry up it leaves a white crusty discharge. In addition, I've experienced pain behind the back of my left eye. I'm not sure what it is but I am going to be going to an optomologist next week. If I get an answer, I will put in the ask section. Research on the web that I've looked at suggests it can be glaucoma.

The question is, have you mentioned this to your eye doctor? He won't know what to look for if you don't bring it up. It could be caused by a number of things.
It could even be due to dry eyes. I know this sounds backwards, but think of it this way----If your eyes aren't making enough tears, they try to over accomodate by making more tears and thus you have excessive tearing at various times. You can try artificial tears such as visine tears, refresh tears, etc. All of these can be purchased over the counter. If this doesn't help, I would talk to your eye doctor.
Hope this helps a little. :)

I had this problem a few years ago. Do you wear contact lenses? My red eyes were due to a reaction to the brand of contact lens solution I was using.
