They didn't, the geese were on their way to South America, and got tired and lost, so here they stay.
Now, as far as you fertilizing your yard, would you do it the same as the geese, if so, your neighbors might get pissed.

dunno, but apparently they're called Canada geese after some dude named Canada (Robert Canada maybe) not after Canada
