Because it exists, and there's evidence for it.
It would be silly to say it's not true, the idea certainly exists.
You don't have to beleive it, obiviously.
But know that as "It's just a theory, it's just a theory!" so is heliocentricism

evolution is a theory. it hasnt been proved but there is a lot of evidence for it.

No particular reason. It just is.
If you ask "How did this come about" instead of "Why is this true" it will be easier to understand. "Why" is not a valid question.
