Yes, they would definitely need him, and a couple of role players that would help Kobe's load.

They need to trade Smush, Vladimir Radma, Aaron McKie (if he will continue) S. Williams, and Odom (yes, Odom).
They should keep Farmar, Evans, Walton, Brown, Mihm, and Bynum.

As to why I would trade Odom: Odom does not suite in that triangle offense unlike Brown and Farmar and Walton.
Odom is a bad perimeter shooter and isn't that too much a defensive player.

I would keep Farmar in the bench, along with Evans and Bynum and Turiaf.

These are my list of changes:
Starting Five:
PG - Mo Williams/Steve Blake/Jason Kidd
SG - Kobe Bryant , obviously
PF - Kwame Brown/Kevin Garnett
SF - Luke Walton
C - Chris Mihm.

Surprised by Mihm?
Tell you what, Chris Mihm is a more productive player than Brown or Bynum, and he is more efficient because he blocks, rebounds, scores, and assists.
I put Brown in the power forward position because he will do a lot in that area.
It will be hard to contain 2 big men on the floor, with Walton, a PG, and Kobe.

Double-teaming one of them would make Kobe open or even Kidd/Blake/Mo or Walton.

The next thing is bench production.

Evans and Farmar will make good instant offense.
and Bynum would produce in the same manner with Brown on the floor or Turiaf.

If you look at this roster, you've got a well-balanced team such as the Bulls, Spurs, and Detroit.

Defense or offense would prove it.
The rotation of these roster would make other teams' lineups fall.

Let me tell it this way:
Starting 5:
PG - Williams/Kidd
SG - Kobe
PF - Brown/Garnett
SF - Luke
C - Mihm

The rotation:
PG - Farmar/Blake
SG - Williams/Kobe
PF - Turiaf/Bynum/Brown
SF - Evans
C - Brown/Mihm/Bynum

That's all. thanks =)

Hey ryancey,

i think this is a question that is really up to Laker management. Kobe will not win a championship with the group of guys that are surrounding him now. The truth is no other player in the history of the NBA could win it all with this group. Not even M.J.

The role players that Michael had were a lot more consistent and definitely better (i mean just comparing Sasha to Steve Kerr) and Smush to a BJ Armstrong. Comparisons are not even close.

If the Lakers can get a couple of other guys that can be consistent and have some basetball IQ they have a great shot. Kobe's talents alone are enough to keep the Lakers in ballgames and they stole quite a few ball games this year- just simply because Kobe kept them in a game with some scoring sprees that normally they'd be so far out of.

Also the Lakers have problems beyond supporting cast in terms of talent, but just heart. Their defense was terrible (mainly because of effort) and injuries, but mainly just effort.

Laker management needs to go over the cap and get some guys in here who can play. If you took out Kobe the Lakers have the worst roster in this league.

Dr. Buss open the wallet. Bring back Jerry West. Go Lakers!

The Lakers need to take a look at how Chicago and Detroit has built their teams over the last 3 years. Arguably, Detroit doesn't have a team of Stars but they have solid roll players, that you can depend on, night after night. Chicago is a team full of roll players, the only name that stands out is Ben Gordon, but his skills blend in. The Lakers have the coach that can get them on a roll, I think they need to let him have more say, on who to pursue that will fill the void. Kobe, is young enough, but the jury is still out in terms of his body breaking down because he has been playing the game of basketball at such a high level for years. In fact, Kobe's skills are at its peak or very close right now. The Lakers do not need just another star, they need a new team. If they can bring in some horses that can get the boards and be a threat to block shots, and then create either a dominant defensive scheme or an offensive scheme that the talent can thrive, they will then be able to make a run. This is what both the Pistons and the Bulls have done, and they will continue to get better. Because of age the Pistons may have to fine tune in the off season, but they are years from an overhaul.

I definatly think the Lakers will win a National Championship, but only with Kobe. People say he's a ball hog, he has no one to pass to. Kobe is by far the best player in the NBA and someday will lead the Lakers to a National Championship.

Kobe already won 3 NBA championships.

To answer your question, they need Shaq.

It is entirely possible, but it won't happen. They value Bynum to highly, and have to tight of a budget. Bynum could have gotten them Kidd, and they refused. Either he grows up super-quickly to become Shaq-Reincarnated or the Lakers somehow field a Top-Rate Free Agent. Otherwise, Kobe said he wanted out. (The Press Conference he was at he stated he wanted some supporting cast.)

personally, i think with the way kobe plays, they cant really win a big one with him because of his tendency to sometimes hog the ball. He would probably need someone else to do all the other handy work that shaq used to do when he was on the lakers back then. untill then, i really dout the lakers going far at all.

Yes he is the best player ever. The only time that he is a ballhog is when his team is down and his team isnt getting the job done. They will pick up someone this offseason and be in contention again next year. Bynum is the next big thing in the NBA. The kid is only 19 and holding his own in the NBA.

Yes they will, and they will do it by picking up another superstar to play alongside Kobe.

They need players who can grasp the concepts of the Triangle offense... this season Phil Jackson had to change his offense because his players couldn't understand it...

They need to mold their team into a team similar to the old bulls team... and they will win...
