It is always someone died, there was an earthquake... there was a terrorist attack, I mean I think these are very important stories and need to be shown and reported. But can't a little bit of good news be added in there as well?
Whenever they do a good story they spend about 2 seconds reporrting it and then it is over. I know there is alot of good news out there that is never reported... they cut out time for those stories and put on two people bickering instead. I definetly think they should more good, heartwarming stories on the news.

Good news = Low ratings

Journalism is a business. Unfortunately, we as a culture, have become a little sick. I am not excluding myself in this. I admit I will stay tuned for an extra minute or two if a tragedy is being reported.

Paul Johnson that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Lets talk about the troop surge in Iraq. Harry Reid goes on TV and say "The troop surge is not working." This sounds great for the Democrats and is reported on TV. Meanwhile in the two weeks from when the surge began and when Senator Reid made his pronouncement there was almost 150 pro-American stories on Iraq that qualified as newsworthy events that never even made it to the middle pages of the paper much less the TV news. How is that Conservative controlled media?

Excellent question! Did you know that when a recent poll was done about the greatest daily stressors people have, the nightly news was in the top 5? I think we have a perverse fascination with things that are shocking. Most good news isn't shocking. There are a lot of nights when I get so sick of all the war, mayhem and murder that I just turn the T.V. off!

i might anticipate your nearby media covers your gang appropriate violence. i'm not belittling your question by ability of asserting that, i'm merely asserting that gangs are so confederated and nearby that i think of the mainstream media has a difficult time putting them right into a countrywide attitude. i think of that's certainly a different problem for the media and is not a conspiratorial attempt. additionally, keep in mind that gang appropriate crime and syndicated crime is monitored by ability of quite some regulation enforcement businesses and the information and info by ability of those businesses many times contradict one yet another. except a media member enters a single crime syndicate their information is limited and under good to report. It merely isn't a international it is so sparkling. some businesses are in step with danger tender with speculating on a political progression via fact it in step with danger impact a brilliant style of human beings for the duration of a state or a usa yet crime might in step with danger impact a limited area. i'm not protecting the media right here yet i'm additionally not condemning them for this the two. Reporting on phantoms is complicated.

It's to bad they don't just have an hour of good news stories every night. We seem to have an appetite for seeing someone ruined politically, or someone blown up or how many died in Iraq. We have a need to slow down to see a wreck. Very sad.

Fear of the unknown is medias tool and they use it well to sell moreof their own brand. News is news, good or bad , but unless you the listener, is affected by it , to make you uncomfortable, to put you in it's place and involve you in it , it won't sell. Don't forget good and bad news has been around since Adam and Eve , and what sold? The apple story! Today someone in florida farted and we heard it in Wisc. seconds later. Thats progress. Word of mouth and smoke signals would still be on its way a year later.

Dude... Watch any news tonight and you will see that terrorists were arrested for plotting to attack a military base. If that isn't good news, I don't know what is.

Ratings.

On the other hand, I've noticed several nightly news programs on all three major TV networks devote several minutes regularly to stories praising extraordinary individuals.

the same reason why people slow down to look at an accident that has happened on the opposite side of the freeway, to see the blood and gore. no one ever slows down to look at the smooth flowing traffic. this has resulted in skewed perceptions of many things going on in the world.
if we aren't watching they aren't making money.

sad but true... people don't care about the good news...

go open up a newspaper, tv station or radio station and give a little more "good news" than the rest... and see how well your ratings go...

and ratings equals more money... as they can sell their ads for more...

market sets the standard...
