I try to be obedient to that very soft, delicate intuited will of God that prompts me to do things,"now". As often as not i run rough shod over it without "hearing", only to later recall that i was given to do the "right" thing. Slowly but surely i do learn from experience to be more alert, trying ever harder to intuit Gods will.

Obeying the "law" to most of us is almost instinctual. Post modern philosophers would have us believe there is no absolute right and wrong. Most of us obey our learned "laws" of right and wrong behavior given us by the TLC of our very young mothers when we were infants and children. These are the absolutes of civilizations and the young girls who thus shape these civilizations are not given much credit.
When our learned sense of right clashes with societies accepted rules of behavior we may not feel guilty and uneasy as we would if we had been taught that "way" and we may be disciplined by others for it. New laws are made when such "mistakes" become too common. The body of laws that have been built up by civilizations in this manner are but a reflection of the wills of our mothers and grandmothers.
Most human civilizations are thus really matriarchies. Our absolute, seeming instinctual, sense of right and wrong having been passed down over time by our parents, primarily our mothers.

Good question. I don't worry about following the law to the letter. I think maybe this is a question instead about self-discipline. If you've got it internalized (meaning you believe it's to your best interests to follow the law instead of waiting to be caught and disciplined to follow the law), then I would suspect you'll follow the law as much as possible.
Most folks don't kill others, steal from others, or other really bad things not because they're worried about breaking the law but because they're internalized a respect for others' lives and property as well as their own. Others' lives and property as as valuable as their own.
Now...if you want to discuss speeding LOL or traffic violations...we might have another story....I have a hard time NOT speeding!

Laws are boundaries created within a society to bring about order. Imagine if every bloke thought that the law applies to other people and not to him/her. We are all different and for that we should be thankfull, but for YOUR culture or frame of reference something might seem trivial where as it is vitaly important to somebody else. That is what laws do for us. It protects us from misunderstanding each other. It's one thing to skip a trafficlight at 3am, pissed out of your skull until you hit another person and kill them. Here we have a culture of raping babies (3months to 5 years old) because it is believed that it will cure HIV AIDS. That is their culture and frame of reference. Would you like the same attitude with your kid? Here being South Africa where lawlessness is rife.

Prison is inconsistent with my goals. No other reason.
The momentary pleasure of revenge that some experience in "pay back" (whether it be to another or the society) often wears off long before the consequences of the action.
Revenge isn't worth it.
Although I am skeptical of your reply as much of "our" personal beliefs have been taught to us in society -- the same society that enacts such laws.

I don't want a boyfriend. I'd rather keep my freedom and look for a nice girlfriend.
Summary: I just don't want to go to prison.
