Most colleges prefer that you take about 3 years of a language, but some may require about 4. I took 5 years of Latin and 2 years of german (i overlapped Latin and German 2 years in a row) while in high school.

Most colleges will also have you take a placement test in a specific language, to allow you to get credit for a language without having to take it at the university if you took several years of a language in high school.

Anyway, i would aim for 3 - 4 years. If you know what colleges you plan on looking into, you could always e-mail someone from admissions and ask how many years they require.

Good luck!

The colleges I know require a minimum of 2 years of the same language. Some might need 3, which is why you would have to check with the specific college that you want.

you used to need atleast 2 years of a language to graduate but now depending on the schools that doesn't matter.. i think you need two to get accepted into most colleges, some want three languages though soo if you don't have enough languages you might have to pay to take it in college.. so you should probably take as many as possible just in case

It will impress most colleges if you can get about 3 foreign language credits during high school. However, you can only get the credit if you pass the class, so if you know that you can't habla the espanol, don't bother to take it. It'll ruin your year and look bad on your resume. It's best to take a class when you KNOW you'll do well but simultaneously be challenged.

If you are me, then you took 4 years of Spanish, 2 years of French and 1 year of German.

Most people only need 2-3 years.

I just love learning other languages.

I think that you should take as many years as you can, especially of Spanish because it is so prevelant in our society today. I took 5 years, Freshman, Soph, Junior, and 2 classes during Senior (which equals out to like 2 years..dont worry, i graduated in 4 years =) )

If you plan to go to college, you should absolutely take as many as possible. Even if they don't offer an actual class at your school, you should be able to do self study. My sister took 4 years of French in high school, but when she took the placement test she only tested in the beginner's class! So.. make sure you practice.. if you don't use it, you will lose it.
