totaling $2000. Will the landlord come after him or let it slide? He has the same phone number and pre renting mailing address, yet he hasn't recieved any contact from anybody. I just don't get it. Is he that lucky, what is the deal?

the landlord has probably been looking for your friend. Check the court record and see if the landlord has filed a case against him. Has your friend had problems securing another rental? If he has or if he has had problems securing credit then it's probably on his credit report as well. If the landlord has a case against him and won (because he didn't show up) then some day that landlord may place a lien against his car and make him sell his car. It's always best to pay your rent and bills.

His credit rating is already in the dumper...and until he clears it up, it will stay there, because they can just keep filing (with the bill growing each time) every couple of years to keep it there.

YES, he will be chased over the outstanding bill (and if he's been complaining about how much it costs him in rent and damage deposit, this is the reason why...he's been classified as a bad risk). I can *almost* guarantee that it has already been forwarded to a collections company.

TIP: Do NOT pay the collections company. Contact the original contract holder (property management for the apartment building), and pay THEM directly. Cheaper that way. Just remember to have THEM contact the bill collector and cancel the collections notice/account. ;)
