I have a tiny little garden plot in an odd place in my backyard. It has lots of problems that are not easily fixed from a gardening standpoint. After much trial and error, I finally decided to fill the whole thing in with pea gravel and put planted containers on top of it. I have quite a bit of polished river rock from another project and was wondering how I could use the polished river rock in this space with the gravel. Should I just place pieces randomly or pile it up along the edges? I am open to any ideas. Thanks!

Putting it around randomly would be a great idea, instead of strategic placment of the river rock, looks to formal then. But even making a dry river bed with the river rock might look inviting as well, maybe even place a couple of bigger rocks to make it look like a babbling brook type of scene, good luck and have fun with it. Would love to see a pic of it when your done.

Your choice. I've seen it done both ways. Personally I like to group like varieties together instead of a hodge-podge. then put the clusters around.

One of the prettiest arrangements was a stone wall made from one person's collection. This wall was next to the patio so the collector could look at his collection.

Either way sounds like a good idea. I think I would try it around the edge and see what you think. If you don't like it then just spread it around.
