1. Libs are very happy that there is potential to repair some of the enormous harm Bush has done to our foreign relations. We just hope Bush and Rice will reciprocate
2. Chirac did not get to vote in the UN security council because we did not put a motion for an invasion in front of the council. Anyway Russia and China were going to veto it as well anyway - all this animosity to France is really amiss.
3. To be involved in Saddam's nuclear program in the seventies they wouldn't have had much time. Saddam became president of Iraq in July 1979
4.The US backed Saddam throughout the Iran Iraq war in the 80s so any condemnation of France seems a little unreasonable.

Chirac and France were the biggest violators of the UN sanctions on Iraq (see Oil For Food Scandal). They were profiting off his murderous regime like no one else and, along with Russia, supplied Iraq with many of its weapons and nuclear weapons materials.

Maybe now, France will join the civilized world again...

From the questions I read here last night and this morning, they're both mad as hell and confused. Not only in France were the libs voted out, but apparently also in Canada. And if my memory serves me correctly, "Chiraque" is spelled "Chirac." I could be wrong...

Chirac was pretty conservative all in all.
Does the US (the country that supplied Saddam's chemical weapons) have a right to point the finger at France for being involved in his nuclear program?

Yes, I knew that France was doing business with Iraq and that was why they voted that way. Same for Russia.
The UN is very corrupt.
I think this new turn is great.

Did you know the Americans put the Taliban in place in Afghanistan and empowered Osama Bin Laden originally? It's all moot in context.

I am waiting to actually see the new gov't installed before I make a decision.

I think what Patton thought:

I would rather have the enemy in front of me than the French behind me.
