My brother says that whenever he sees boiling water he feels like killing someone. Literally killing someone, he said he feels like taking a knife and stabbing someone or just strangling someone. He says it ONLY happens when he sees boiling water, not when he thinks about it. Also, if there's something in the water it makes it worse. It actually doesn't have to be water, anything boiling he said. Do any of you feel that too? Is there something wrong with him? Is he going crazy?

I'm being completely serious and I want a serious answer.

This sounds almost like a dissociative identity thing... except that he is completely aware of it...
People with dissociative disorders will often attach unrelated feelings (mostly fears) to inanimate objects...
(Like Sybil with the dishtowels and piano music...)

If he was not joking with you - then it is definitely an interesting complex...

You should get him counseled to see what the heck is going on with him.

If this is you, then you should get yourself counseled...
I say this because it is more common in women and people who have dissociative disorders are prone to covering it up out of fear and embarrassment.

Were either of you ever victims of abuse?

Wow. Brother has issues. I wonder if he had an early childhood experience involving water (bath time?) that is bringing forward latent hostility. The human brain is most amazing in that we protect ourselves from painful experience by internalizing the emotions and actual memories in many cases. Then later in life, sometimes these emotions and memories can surface at the oddest times.

My suggestion is..if these feelings continue..perhaps counseling is in order.

It does sound like he needs help. It doesn't necessarily mean he's crazy....it could even be some sort of strange neurological thing. (Sort of like when epileptic seizures are brought on by flashing lights) But whatever it is, it sounds dangerous so I don't think I'd procrastinate about getting it checked out.

I think this is called Command Halucinations brought on by discreet visual stimulous. You should seek professional help, your brother could be a danger to himself or others. You can't always control what you see.

Not going, he's already there. Call the suicide hot-line and they can speak with him, also give you/him referrals for therapists. His thoughts can not be left unattended to, he could harm himself or someone else, and it is your moral duty to get him help before anyone gets harmed!
