I saw this quilt in one of those quilting magazines. it wasn't featured with a pattern, but a picture was shown. It had a single star pattern, and it started with light turquoise in the middle fading to dark purple then black. it was absolutely gorgeous...looking like it would glow under a blacklight. does anybody know which quilt i may be talking about?
cheers!

I couldn't find the exact quilt you were talking about, but is there any chance it's a Mariner's Compass? Or maybe a variation of the Mariner's Compass called a Mariner's Star - it's combined with the Lone Star design. There are links to pictures of both below. There's also a link to Judy Mathieson's quilt gallery. She has an excellent book on Mariner's Compass and variations.

I hear people say all the time on Y!A that their doc says not to quit cold turkey due to stress, but I did at 5 weeks, in the prime time for miscarriages and didnt miscarry. If you want to quit for your baby, quit. No one can make you and Im not going to try to guilt you into it, but you're past the major miscarriage risk time frame, so I would assume that quitting at this point would be more beneficial than just cutting back. If you can't quit, or just dont want to, try to cut your amount in half AT LEAST!! And seriously look into quitting after the baby is born because of the risks of second hand smoke. I didn't quit with my first two sons and I thank God every day that they're normal and healthy...but I also only smoked between 2 and 4 cigarettes a day. I am so glad I made the decision early on to not risk a third baby for my selfish benefit....just praying for the strength to not start up again after he's here!!! Good luck with whatever you decide :)

Your description suggests it is a Lone Star. Check with your library (quilting books) or google it on line to be sure. Then, start quilting, it's wonderful!
