Because those countries subsidize gas for their citizens in order to influence world markets and make the product more expensive for free-market economies, through supply issues.

We've actually been failed by Presidents dating back to 1974 and we can also lay some blame on the environmentalists.

The biggest reason gas is so expensive here is we haven't built any new *refineries* in 30 years thanks to the environs and lack of Presidential foresight.

We had 300-something 30 years ago and now we're down to under 200. I've read they're trying to build more as we speak, but you can imagine the oil companies are not chomping at the bit do alleviate the short supply.

Tax you people don't get it -

The majority of the price at the pump is tax from your own government !

At 70 a barrell it works out to be 1.56 a gallon - the rest goes to fund a war and support millionare governments in Ottawa and Washington

At 70 dollars a barrel - the base price after the oil company takes out it's profit and refineing the cost per litre is 50 cents US thats 60 cents Cdn - ) The price at the pump 1.04

Who gets the other 44 cents ? The government !

My government not someone else's - I am not being robbed by Venezuala - I am being robbed by Ottawa and you guys are being robbed by your State and federal government

Oh for gods sakes I wish people would wake up

300 years wow that is a Huge (and fictitious) number!

Those governments subsidize the cost of gas...Venezuela stole the assets of private business to do this.

Beyond that, Gas is a world market commodity and without subsidy is still quite inexpensive.
It costs about the same everywhere...the differences we see at the pump is due to tax imposed by each consuming country,

you desire to be certain gas bypass up even better than 40 cents a gallon? only write your Congressman and tell him to vote for yet another minimum salary enhance. Then the gas station attendants ought to gets a commission extra which will tension the proprietors of the gas stations to bypass it directly to all and sundry else by raising the gas value back. Then tell your Congressman to enhance the taxes on a gallon of gas back, and that'll placed the fee up much extra. with out the taxes and the salary will enhance, a gallon of gas could nonetheless be down around a greenback fifty, and all and sundry knows of it. they only desire responsible the "grasping" oil agencies.

Because we have Federal and State gas taxes to pay for the roads. Also sales and excise taxes on gas.

Have you seen the roads in Venezuela and Iran? They look like sand and mud.

we are being held hostage by these people, I don't think he can do much to lower these prices, but he COULD do a great deal towards helping up become less dependent on foreign oil if he really wanted to make this a policy issue

sociald, that isn't why their gas is so cheap, it's because they take the money that we pay them for oil and then use it to heavily subsidize their gas prices

Because they are using their own oil, they dont have to ship it long distances,
They dont have any environmental standards they have to adhere too while drilling for it, refining it, shipping it or using it.
They dont have to put in environmental additives.
There are less safety standards they have to meet.
And they have a lower standard of living.

Not saying I agree with it at all.
