Run like hell. I've been in the WGAw since 1995. The way it works is you have the talent. They (if they are good reputable agents) pick up on it. They get you work. You pay them 10% of what you earn from the jobs they get you. If it's a Manager, they usually get a little more. But it should never be more than 15 or 20 % of your Gross. Be careful, kid. Hollywood Business is a tough racket. Go for SAG(Screen Actors Guild)that's the Union equivalent to WGAw(Writer's Guild) or (DGA=Director's Guild)
Example. When I first got into the Business I got $25,000 for writing a script. Of that money, I had to pay WGAw $2,500. But the good news is you get Health Insurance, Benefits, etc. THink SAG instead of Agent. Get yoour Card and they (Agents) will come.

Don't pay anything up front to an agent! Spend some money to get good head shots, and send them to the agency. Good agents look for talent -- if you've got it, they'll know it, and the only thing you should have to provide is your picture and resume. They'll do the rest. They will take a percentage of whatever you earn, but they know where the work is. Anyone who asks you for money up front is exploiting you.

I'm not sure about it but I've watched it on TV something similar and it was a scam. However, I think someone else might come up with a better answer.

If you are going to have them represent you, they're going to make money out of you anyway, so why are they charging you in the first place?

For photo fee and portfolio??? Ask more questions, ask for referreals and call them and check with them. Do more research, go to more agencies. Compare notes.

WELL here is the thing!!!! Now days there is a fee for almost everything so yes it is common but it would be wise of you to ask about those they represent and talk to them and ask if they are happy with the service and also do a backgroud check if you are not sure of the qualifications. Dont let them try to tell you that you donat have the right to do that either bc you DO have that right as a part of your services. You want to know where allof your $$$$ is going. Remember nobody else will do it for you.

SCAM!

Legitimate Talent Agents work on COMMISSION only.

When you get a job, they take 10% of the money you make.
It is the ONLY time they can take money from the actor.

Again, its a SCAM! If you want to believe it is legitimate, go ahead.

I normally don't answer talent agent questions, but this one reeks. I'm sorry, but from what you've put here, it sounds like a scam.

NOOOO! Run! Quick! If it's legit, then the agency will pay YOU. They want people in their company and will pay anything it takes to get you before another comany does. If they ask you to pay anything, even a "down payment" for scoring a job, it's a scam. (Even for porfolio's, and such).

I tried for susan paige modeling, which included classes & a portfolio, and they were only a helpful way to get noticed so you CAN get a job. But they did not gaurantee a job/agent. thats up to your look, and luck and passion.

It's a scam.

You WOULD have to pay for headshots and lessons, but those can be obtained somewhere else.
