This refers to a "default judgment" which was entered because the defendant did not respond to the complaint.

It may be possible to Petition the Court to "Open" the Judgment.

My recommendation is to have your friend consult with an attorney AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The next step for the plaintiff would be to collect on the judgment by levying on her bank accounts, siezing her property under a court order, or garnishing her wages (if that is permitted in your particular jurisdiction).

Usually a default means that the party summoned to court failed to show up and a default judgment has or will be entered. Better get an attorney, and quick!

You may be refering to an entry of Default Judgement. It means someone filed a complaint in court. Your friend did not follow court procedures and file an answer or defend. Therefore she lost and the judgement was entered against her.....oooops.

It is a way to get a judgment if you are not present or the party in the suit is your responsibility. It is a term that is used in the legal system.
