My next door neighbor took castor oil. She took 1/4 C and boy did it get things going!

I must say though, it was very violent. She started vomiting and had major diarrhea & cramps. She took more than is recommended because she didn't want to put up with being pregnant one second longer.

For less vioulence and a more 'normal' labor, take it at about a tablespoon at a time, wait 30 minutes, then take another tablespoon or so to get things going.

Below is a web site that you might want to read. It give recipes etc. as well as recommendations on when to take it.

Additional info: I had 3 children by being induced, and one without. Knowing what I know now, I would go without being induced any time possible! When I was induced I had LONG, LONG labors (22, 18, 17 hours). Long enough that most Dr.s would do C-sections. Then, since they were so long, it took me a year to heal properly.

The one I had without being induced (my last child) was much faster. (6 hours) I healed much more quickly. All the nurses I've talked to about it confirmed my suspisions. If you are induced, many times you have a much longer labor and the baby has a harder time of it.

There is nothing more frustrating then when baby won't come. How overdue are you? I went 7 days past my due date with my first baby. I went into labor the night before I was going to induce. In the end I was glad I didn't induce-- I've heard the contractions can be horrible!

There are all sorts of old wives tales about things like spicy food and castor oil (my mom swears by swings at the park) but the only thing that is proven to help is sex. You could ask your doctor to strip your membranes which could get things moving. Hang in there. As my doctor told me, in 25 years of practice, no baby has ever NOT COME :)

I had two due dates, the doctor decided to go with the second due date. I was 2 cm dilated and the doctor asked me if I would like to be induced the next day since my blood pressure was a little high. I went in the next day and was induced. I did just fine and it was my first child. I went in at 5 am and had her at 1:24 pm. the same day. I've been told its less painful to go natural and not be induced, but if you're overdue and ready to have this baby, go for it.

well for my sis we used castor oil-the first night we filled a shot glass and she did a shot followed by a can of coke and then walked for awhile-she started feeling lil contractions but nothing major. Then the next night we did it again and 3 hours later went to the hospital and within a few hours there was my nephew! but be carful not to use to much! Good luck! You can get it at walgreens and do a shot and make sure you drink soda coke or pepsi-it make take 2 doses to kick start but i swear by it

You could try going on a walk because walking around would help you kick start your labor.

i've had two kids. anything that you try to do to put yourself in labor has the possibility of hurting the baby. he/she will come out when ready. if you do try anything, talk to your doctor first to make sure there are no risks to the baby.

bumpy car rides work great. get your hubby to drive around on bumpy streets and over rail road tracks. carry towels with you this can break your water although it didnt break mine i did go into labor this way. also didnt try this but have your partner play with your g spot and bring you to an orgasm heard this works too
