These are the tail lengths in mm of a litter of mice:

46. 58, 57, 48, 55, 51, 49

What is the median and the range?

Can you show your workings so I can figure out how to do it myself?

range: 58-46=12 (you take the smallest number and subtract it from the highest number)

median: 51 ( you put your numbers in order from least to greatest than cross out a number from each side until you get to the middle)
46,48,49,51,55,57,58 (ex. cross out 46 and 58 than 48 and 57 etc...)
hope i could help =]

The median is 51 and you get this by puting the numbers in order from least to greatest whitch is 46 48 49 51 55 57 58 and then you cross one of each side until you get a middle number and if there are two middle numbers then you put the numbers that are in the middle of that and they for example 51 52 53 54 55 and then if you end up with two in the middle and there are no numbers in the middle of it then it's a half and for the range it's 12 and you just subtract the lowest number from the highest number I hope this helps good luck.

to find the median put them in ascending order.....46, 48, 49, 51, 55, 57, 58 ...there are 7 numbers so the median is the middle number which is 51. The range is the difference between the largest number and the smallest (58-46=12)

46 48 49 51 55 57 58

51 is the median

and the range 58-46=12

The range is the lowest length to the highest
so 46 - 58

the median is the middle number, so put the numbers in numerical order,
46 48 49 51 55 57 58
and one by one take a number off each end
48 49 51 55 57
49 51 55
51

so 51 is the median
if after doing that you got two numbers you would take the mean of those two numbers (a + b)/2

Alright.
First, you have to order all of your numbers from least to greatest. The Median is the middle number between 46 and 58 in this case because 46 is your lowest number and 58 is your highest in this set. The median is 52 because if you write out all the numbers between 46 and 58 like 46, 47, 48... you get 13 numbers. The middle of your set of 13 is the seventh number which is 52.
The range is fairly simple. You have to tell the range between the highest and lowest number. Like I said before, there are 13 numbers between 46 and 58 so, your range is 13.
Hope this helps ;)

The range is just how spread out the data is. To calculate the range when you have a lot of number ( substract the smallest number from the largest number).

In this case:
58-46

The median is middle term. Arrange the numbers in increasing order and get the middle term. If you have an even number of terms then get the avergae of the two middle numbers.

In this case
46 , 48, 49, 51 ,55, 57, 58

51 is the middle term and is therfore your median.

This better be selected as the best answer lol.

hehe...

Well to get the median you must 1st put the data in order from least to greatest. So that would be...

46. 48. 49. 51. 55. 57. 58.

Then find the number in the middle, so in this case 51.

To find the range, find the highest number and lowest number and subtract them.

So in this case find out what 58 - 46 is

It is 12.

Median: 51
Range:12

median ::::

put them in order

46 48 49 51 55 57 58

the number in the middle is the median : 51

range :::: subtract the smallest number from the largest

58-46=12

so...

median=51
range=12

OKay so for the median you put the numbers from smallest to largest:
46 48 49 51 55 57 58
As you can see the middle number is 51. So 51 is the median. To find the range you take the smallest number and put it by the biggest number and put a dash - between them haha :D
Range: 46 - 58
HOPE I HELPED!
