In principle message boards are great up to a critical point of popularity in which there are so many posts that the whole thing turns into a worthless chat room with messages coming in so fast that no one is reading or discussing anything and everyone is ranting into a wasteland of digital dust \ as evidenced by the “Discuss” option on leading Yahoo News headlines that Yahoo elected to discontinue at least till they could come up with something better and I fear this Q&A forum may be the “something better”
This Q&A thing slows the traffic down to the point that you can at least follow the traffic but they put you in such a tight box that you can do little more than express your opinion with little to no recourse for discussion.
If they would allow the author of a thread or question two additional responses or questions to each responder he or she attracts to the topic in a one on one exchange it would help considerably to upgrade the dialogue and content and at the same time restrain inane traffic.

I dont know about message boards but i know Y/A is very popular now especially the Polls and Surveys section
