Depends on the bike.
On my Hondas, on the centerstand. (straight up)
On my Harley, on the jiffy stand. (kickstand)

The Kawasaki Vulcan series you measure striaght up.
Which is a pain cause the sight glass is below the engine housing. You need a mirror or a buddy to check it. I tend to use a 2x4 to get almost straight up under the kickstand.

Do what the maker of the Bike says to do. Some say on the stand, some say straight up. It's what the dip stick, or sight glass is calibrated for.

The bike should be as level as possible (straight up). Usually a centre stand is sufficient for oil level.

If you don't have a centre-stand then a jack or one of those stands that lifts the swingarm or forks would be fine.

Most owners manuals say straight up. Some say with the oilstick screwed in and some not.

If your talking about oiling the parts on your bike u flip it upside down n then oil it.
