there should not be any cost. you can connect both hard drives and then start the transfer. If connecting both drives to the PC is not an option. back up your data to an other computer on the network, an external drive or removable media (CD, DVD, thumb drive) and then install the new drive and transfer the data.

Why not go the whole route and buy an external hard drive. You could let your PC copy everything over while you sleep and the external HD would serve as a backup as well.

Buy a maxtor hard drive(now owned by seagate) and download maxblast 5. Slick and easy! Just follow the instructions.
