Well the stang might have a little bit of an edge with the automatic, but i think that the 300zx should beat the stang.
I suppose it also depends on the length of the race, 1/4 the stang might get off the hop first, but i think the zx will pull ahead about 3/4 of the way down the 1/4 mi.

I would have to drive both the cars to be sure though ;)

I personaly would rather drive the 300zx, unless the cobra was a shelby ;)

Even though I love RX7s I would defiantly say to steer clear of them. Rotaries are tempermental and not for the inexperienced. 300zx's are very nice. Twin turbo models are not easy to find. I live by one of the premier Z shops in the USA, Z1 Motorsports. They can be a bit difficult to work on at times. However, my vote is a tie between a 240sx and a Mustang. The tie breaker is your budget. A 240sx with an SR20 swap is quite a lot of fun. Despite what you may hear about people going with a turbo KA24 it isn’t a good option. The KA24 (which comes stock in US spec 240sx's) is a small truck motor. It has thin cylinder side-walls that are prone to failure in boosted motors. If you have the budget a 240sx with an SR20 is the way to go. If you don't have the cash, a Mustang GT is the way to go. 94-95 GT's came with a pushrod 5.0L and 96' and up GTs came with a 4.6L SOHC, both of which can definitely 'spin the tires'. The amount of aftermarket support is huge (the 240 aftermarket has become huge as well). Just so you know, you won’t be doing any drifting; if you do you will crash whatever you buy. Drifting was born of people whose driving skills had advanced so much that they showed off by driving the car in an 'uncontrolled' manner but were still in control. You don’t just go out and start trying to drift. I know your 16 and you don't want to hear that but it's just plain true.

Sorry a good running. 1990 300zx will top at 136 miles an hour your mustang is limited to the speed rating of the tires about 115 mph. Acceleration of both engines will be almost the same to 30 miles an hour then the manual trans of the Z will help it to start to pull away 1/4 mile you will be able to see the Z's tail lights and 1/2 mile he will have two to five car's on you. Bad bet save your money. Got Nitrous?

The 300ZX, most likely because the engine is more powerful. Although if its driven badly, with a poor start and flubbed changes, the race could be closer than you'd think.

I think the 300zx would get ya, mostly because it has the manual transmission. Most automatic transmissions aren't amazing at acceleration but sometimes they are. His car has a little more hp/tq but your car is lighter by 100lbs or so. So it really is down to the trannys, should be semi-close.
