The most distinguished Economics degree in the USA is from the Unversity of Chicago. Check a list of the recent Nobel prize winners in Economics over the last 20 years - more from Chicago than any other school - the Uof C has something like 12 Nobel prize recipients on its faculty - more in Economics than any other school in the world, and at UChicago, unlike the other schools listed, it is routine for distinguished faculty to teach undergraduate courses.
