Most pit bull bans are done at the municipal rather than the state level. Usually (though not always) the pit bulls that are already there are allowed to stay through a "grandfathering process" and no new pits are allowed to be brought into the area. The grandfathering clause often places certain requirements on the owners in order to keep their dogs like mandatory sterilization, purchasing special liability insurance, muzzling the dog when in public and of course the dogs must be registered and the fee is often quite a bit higher for pit bulls than for other dog owners. It varies depending on how the local ordinance is written. I hope this isn't happening where you live. It's a very stupid response to the dog bite problem. Here's an article that covers the subject pretty well.

There should be an IQ attempt to personal ANY canines...that ought to diminish canines possession by about ninety 5%. Pit Bulls aren't any more a situation...the final public of those who personal them are...particularly those that imagine they have it "all discovered". regrettably, if there aren't any bans on the those who can personal a canines...then ban on the canines is the in hassle-free words determination. the persons doing many of the complaining about it are the biggest situation. in case you "understand it alls" ought to do away together with your canines, then some responsible individual ought to have one without situation. in case you're between the persons questioning, "Yeah, why do not those idiots get rid of their pit bulls so i visit keep mine"...then you definitely're probable the single which needs to get rid of yours.

i 'm not sure of state laws, but you need to check your homeowners insurance, because a friend of ours had to get rid of his 2 pit bulls or they were going to cancel his insurance policy. you need to check , because if your dog attacked someone , your policy might not pay, leaving you personally responsible.
