I'm so scared. I have never, ever had sex, but my mom wants to start me on birth control. She says that I need a pap smear before I can get it, but i did some research and found out I don't need one when I start birth control, but will later on.

The actual pap smear, i know what happens, I know they prob you, finger you, scrape you, stick stuff up inside of you, grope you, not to mention you're naked while they do all this and I can't think of this as an exam! I only think of it as some pervy stranger poking around at me! I know it's part of growing up, I know it's important, and I know doctors have probibly seen a thousand vagainas and probibly don't care, but I DO. Is there any way to get past the idea that the gynacologyst is anything more than a smart perv, and that the pap smear is anything more than a horrid groping session....just thinking about it makes my eyes well with tears of...fear? I know I can get a female doctor, but I hate this idea all together.

Where in the world are you getting this information. A pap is nothing like this.. they don't do anything like that. They are not smart prevs, and a pap is not a horrible groping session it is designed to save your life.. to detect disease early. Perhaps you should speak to your mother about what exactly goes on in a pap smear..

Besides think of it this way.. when you have kids the doctor is going to have to look at your vagina. not doubt about it so better deal with the fact that to save your life and/or have kids people are going to have to look there

A PAP test has nothing to do with birth control. You have a PAP test to see if you have cancer or precancerous cells which can be watched or treated. The PAP test is taken with a swablike thing and isn't gropeing. If you are this uncomfortable about having an exam to protect your health, I wonder what in the world you think having sex will be like.
Also, you are not naked and you can have a woman in the room if you don't have a woman doctor. These exams are part of being a woman if you are fortunate enough to live in a society where there is modern medical care.
I hopr you get past these fears.

I got on birth control for cramps by going to planned parenthood. They were really great and because I have never had sex and was under 18 I didn't have to get a pelvic exam. However they did tell me that the next year because I would need to have an exam. I did have to have a breast exam (everyone does even at your doctor) but it was not embarassing at all. Just remember that your doctor has seen millions of these before and I promise you that you will not be any different! And by the way a normal papsmear takes less than 2 minutes and they only take 1 swab. Try going to http://www.plannedparenthood.org! There is tons of info on what will happen and the types of birthcontrol you can be on. Hope this helps!!! Good Luck!!!

wow ive been answering questions about right here all day and you're the first to mention that you're 17 and a virgin. A breath of unpolluted air! Anywho, whilst i used to be your age i went via the identical factor ( having to be at the tablet for interval factors and having to get a pap smear whilst being a virgin). For the pap smear its self the first-rate recommendation i will be able to supply you is to calm down! lol Really if you're disturbing it is going to be uncomfortable. Your consult with will usually pass whatever like this A nurse will are available and take your weight and stats ( common dr stuff) she is going to then ask approximately your sexual historical past ( despite the fact that you haven't had intercorse however have had any form of oral intercourse simply be sincere together with her - your mom does NOT need to be within the room for this aspect) subsequent she is going to supply you a robe and let you know to unhook your bra however to maintain it on and take off the whole lot from the waist down. The Dr will are available and can begin with a breast examination which is simply to be certain that you just don't have any lumps. Very handy and affliction loose. Next she is going to inform to you lay down and positioned your toes into the stirrups and can start the pelvic examination that's a bit intimidating however so long as you calm down it shouldnt harm. All she does is insert a qtip like factor into your vagina to take to the lab to verify beneath a microscope to be certain that the whole lot is common. Then your performed! it rather handiest takes approximately three min to do lol Hope that is helping! Oh there's no prep wanted. the dr will use a lubricant so there's no affliction.

Sounds like you don't really want birth control, an exam, or sex right now. Let your mom know that, if that's the case. Its your body, after all, but your mom is probably thinks she's helping you. But if you do want birth control, most doctors will not insist on a pap smear before you have sex. My daughter is 15 and started on bc because she has really horrible cramps, awful periods, and has really bad PMS. So we talked about her options and she wanted to start on birth control pills. We went to our doctor, but she went into the exam room by herself (its what she wanted) and she and the doctor talked in private. I don't know what was said and didn't ask. She left with a prescription for birth control pills, no problem, no pelvic exam. But really, gyn docs are not pervs- they're usually really kind and know how scared and nervous you are, if and when you do get your first pap. Good luck!

Talk to your mom or another trusted female adult about your fears. Why does your mom want you on birth control pills? Do you want to start taking them? Maybe you can schedule a consultation appointment and have the doctor show you all the tools used and tell you everything that will happen. Definitely get a female doctor and remember that we all have to have these exams done and no one I know likes them. Good luck!

I had my first pap at age 11, after I had my first period. I was not sexually active and I did not go on birth control.

You need a pap before you go on birth control.
