The fans in my cabinet (there r 2 fans and my cabinet is of the sliimmer type than regular sized ones) make a lot of noise. Its particularly felt when its more quiet like in the night. The noise has been right since the beginning i brought my PC. My comp enginner tells me that since there r 2 fans;so the noise and the solution he suggests is that i go for a regular sized cabinet where theres just 1 fan. Will changing the cabinet solve the problem and can i reduce the noise somehow without changing the cabinet.

First clean your case out remove the dust and dirt from the fans with a can of air do not get the fins blowing to fast on the fans or you can burn them out this is crazy to put wd 40 on a 3 doller fan go to www.geeks.com and look at cooling options there are a lot of different solutions to goto before changing the case..

The slim cases usually use slim fans for space savings - problem is they still need the same amount of air so they spin them faster and they make more noise!

Yes, I agree that using a standard case with larger fans will be quieter, but that won't change the CPU fan. With a larger case, you could get a larger CPU heatsink / fan which will also be much quieter.

Go with a case with 120mm fans - they move the same air but with much less noise. Same with the CPU fan - get a larger fan with lower RPM.

A quiet power supply with a temperature controlled fan and especially a large fan will help also. Many of the power supplies with the 120mm fans have their fan located on the lower panel - far away from the outside of the case where noise exits.

Most often the problem for a loud aging fan isn't dust - it is a fan with a worn bearing "sleeve bearing". The fan motor shaft is wobbling around inside the bearing and makes a "squeeking" noise. Better fans use ball bearings which last longer.

Good Luck

i have a comp which is so quite you can hear a pin drop, but the psu is making a buzzing generator sound, the fans cant be heard, this is because they are brushless, and can run forever without burning out and are extremely quite, plus it got two of these and water coller in side by the processor and there a hole in the middle of the comp fo air to escape out of, and the hdd are at the front of the pc, it is a vgn rc204, checj it out, really quiet. but if not buying new pc change for water cooling and brushless motors in fans,
bye

it's not about the case...it's about the fan...there are three easy things that you can do...

1 take the fan's out and clean them...(dust-off' or similar) then give them one little spritz of wd-40 or machine oil

or

2) just one or two quite fan's you can buy them on line for like 5 maybe 10 bucks

or

3) try to use a fan speed limiter like Qfan, to make them run slower and quiter...but it will be hotter inside the case...
