Same bases behind why people frown, laff, smirk, wink, or any other social gesture. It proves that were met to be social animals. Its a survival technique for showing in a small way submissive behavior. Its sort of a social way of saying you got me..... also it serves the purpose of directing our behavior in a more socially acceptable way. People that have socialpathic disorders don't know the meaning of embarrassement, so understand its also a symptom of human's ability to emphasize with people. But its also met to train the humain social ego in such away that allows them not to feel embarassed. Its like fear for understanding, embarassment is for social requinition, or acceptance! And like fear you have to find the cause and understand its effect, and hopfully avoid the same fate....
