It's laying on the bottom of the fish tank. Looks to be breathing okay.....When I approached her with the fish net, s/he swam away pretty quickly. But, s/he keeps sinking to the bottom....

How do they act when they are about to lay eggs? Not sure if it's a female or not, but just wondering...

Also, how do YOU prounounc gourami? I say gore-a-me (short a). Is that correct? TIA

Hi Karen,

It's Grom-ie. And you may need to test your water. I remember you saying something to me in your email about your tank being newly set up... your tank may be in the middle of the ammonia cycle. Do a water change of about 25% and that should help. Email me if you want to... I can give more detail.**EDIT: Actually, I've already emailed you... ;)

here's some info on the Ammonia-Nitrite-Nitrate cycle:

Your pronunciation of gourami is almost correct, It's go - RAH ' mee, which is the native name for the largest member of the family O. goramy, but the pronounciation is in the form on classic Italian with the emphasis on the second syllable

As for the fish that really sounds like it's either trying to hide from another fish or maybe the temperature is a bit cool, assuming your ammonia and nitrite levels are at or near 0.

If she is swimming ok over all and eats ok I wouldn't be too concerned.

If she seems to have problems swimming up from the bottom, that would be a swim bladder problem which would require treatment with antibiotics. My first choice for that is Furanace and second choice would be Maracyn TC. Just treat as the package directs for 10 days. Adding medicated antibiotic food would be a good idea as well.

Do u recirculate the water or refill it... Tip on fish, how many fish are in that bowl or tank, cuz fish dont breath water they breath oxygen that water is rich in. If you have to many fish this oxygen will RUN OUT. You have to recirculate the water or better yet get another tank, & you may want to read about this specific species laying eggs cause when amphibians lay eggs its a difficult to maintain them cause they are born weird. Like frog eggs
