i need to write a research paper on "should students be socially promoted to the next grade if the don't pass finals?" I am unsure about my thoughts on the topic. If someone will give me a thesis and a introduction it will be helpful.. thankyou

Social promotions are unfair to the student involved. Instead they should receive extra help. The teacher has plenty of notice that a student is not performing up to his/her standards. The teacher should intervene early enough that the student can be helped. If this doesn't work, the student should be required to attend summer school.

Every time I sit to write an essay I take the main topic or a subject relating to the topic and write a few sentences explaining its history. Like in this case for example I would take the subject of education, its purpose and ultimate goal, and how it affects our society. Then I would probably talk about the repercussions of promoting individuals who aren't prepared to go on to the next grade.

Hope this helps a little.

Just answer the question, and then explain your reasoning. It's even okay to paraphrase the original question. Depending on your opinion, you could use either:

1) "Students should not be socially promoted to the next grade if they haven't passed their finals."

2) "Students should be socially promoted to the next grade, whether or not they've passed their finals.

Then write down why you think so.

No. All this will lead to is a group of people who will become a sub-class who aren't able to compete in the job market. It's hard enough to compete with just a validly earned High School Diploma. To promote someone just because socially they would suffer is a crock.

NO! Those kids with failing grades and poor test scores should not pass to the next grade. That is why they are in school. And school is NOT a free babysitting service - even though some parents think it is!!!

You "promote" the person, you are promoting failure, laxity, and a sort of "who cares" attititude because no matter how well (or poorly) you do, you'll get that diploma anyway
