I know that astrology is a big deal in India. Anglos I've spoken to have said 2012 will bring some big astrological event. Also, Indians that I know tend to watch the stock market and a couple of experts have predicted a big boom in 2012 since in 2016 the first Baby Boomers retire en masse. So, I could ask any Indian...but I don't want to look like a conspiracy theorist so I thought I'd ask on this forum first.

The Mayan's of South America predicted that the world would end in 2012. They were so convinced, that their calender ends in Dec. 2012. I don't know about astrological events, even tho' I am an "Anglo", nor do I play the stock market as many of your Indian aquaintances do, but I do remeber something about Y-2K and the supposed chaos and power outages and anarchy that was supposed to happen that did not. I could drag you back to the '60's and tell you about Jean Dixon. But to keep it short and to the point of your question. Who gives a flip what the Indians belive. Or anyone else who has decended upon this nation like a tick and hopes to profit from what us "Anglo Baby Boomers" do or do not. Some of us won't get to retire now because we are losing our jobs and being shafted out of the retirement we were promised. We will have to work untill we die or be forced to live like swine and who do you think we have to thank for that. Oh! There will be a great world change. And it will probably be sooner than 2012. Hopefully I won't be around to see it.

Actually, many people believe that the world will end in 2012. Especially people who are very religious. Yes, people who practice Hinduism (one of the indian religions) believe that the world will end some time around 2012, what will happen, they don't know. Then, some Jewish people believe that not in 2012, but more near 2015 the Messiah will come and restart the earth. According to my grandparents (both practice Hinduism and are both astronomers) there will be no great change to the earth involving space. They also do not believe that the world will end. So the only thing we actually have to worry about is a nuclear war, hurricanes, tornadoes, earth quakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and pollution.

Actually the Mayans have Winter Solstice on Dec 21 2012 (the end of their Long Count Calendar) ...this is supposed to be the end of civilization, a pole shift, and strange weather. They belive that right now we are in Apocalypse and are between worlds.

The Mayans also say that by 2012-
- we will have gone beyond technology as we know it.
- we will have gone beyond time and money.
- we will have entered the fifth dimension after passing through the fourth dimension
- Planet Earth and the Solar System will come into galactic synchronization with the rest of the Universe.
- Our DNA will be "upgraded" (or reprogrammed) from the centre of our galaxy.
