Wasp stings are usually venomous, so yes they are poisonous, and being stung results in your being poisoned. However, wasp stings are not evolved to kill humans, but they are effective deterrents- they merely wish to defend their nest. Wasps are therefore not usually a threat.
An allergic response to wasp venom can be fatal, and enough stings, if say, the nest were to swarm and converge on you, could theoretically deal enough venom to cause serious problems.
Wasp venom is alkali-based, so application of acidic liquids such as vinegar or orange juice will neutralise the sting and provide relief.
Most wasps are not social at all, but parasitic loners that hunt large insects and other small animals to lay their eggs in, providing their larvae with food upon hatching. Their venom is fatal to their small prey, but they will not sting humans or other large animals. You will probably never even encounter one.
Some tiny wasps spend their lives within the leaves of trees, causing warts and other disfigurements. These you will never even see.

Yes they are. Wasps (most) are venomous, yes, we can well say poisonous. These feisty beings are of the order Hymenoptera and along with the ants (of the same order) are a fierce lot indeed, though whose sting is not quite as severe as that of the bees. The black wasp (which is really a deep purple) is a kind (an insect eater) that frequents crannies in brick, stone, wood and like matter. It is a frenetic pretty creature but no less nothing to trifle with and very commonly found on the east coast of the United States, in which area I commonly saw them and gave them plenty of space to do their bidding. But none of the wasps family are so awesome as that of the dreaded hornet, also common on the east coast along with another order, the great bumble bee (not a wasp). There is also the common wasp (a nester), the noble honey bee (not a wasp order), and of course that most motley of the lot, the yellow jacket (a wasp and scavenger). All hurt if stung by them -- especially that of the hornet, which I always gave the widest berth to, having once performed insect exterminations.

I have been stung and it hurt, but, I was never sick. A woman I know has to keep a Sting Kit with her all the time, if, she get stung and not have her shot she could die. So, it depends on the individual, I will say.
Most stinging wasps are predators or scavengers; their ovipositors may be modified to inject venom used for killing prey or for defense.

Their stingers do contain a "venom" which could in effect be poisonous to highly allergic people.
