i have tried data discs as well as audio discs but it will not load up because it cannot read them. it works fine on playback with any type of recorded discs

Define "read" disc. Think about what you're saying. Of course it can't "read" the disc. There is nothing on the disc to be read. It's blank. You can't "load up" an imaginary file.

Have a look at the drive properties (my computer-view system information-hardware-device manager, right click on the drive and select properties) and make sure the tick box for enable recording is selected.

If the disk is blank there is nothing to read.

once you got the laptop, did they gave you a application on your burner? like Nero? set up that when which you ought to work obtainable if its helps DVD burner. After intalling, open it and you will see "make DVD report" and etc. if it has, i think of then you quite can burn any DVDs.

Try updating the drivers your your CD drive.

if your using window media player to burn disks i sugest downloading real player instead,i had the same problem and as soon as i downloaded real player for free it picked up the disk...i had alot of trouble burning disks using windows media player

there is nothing on a blank disk for it to read.
