Use a 1 liter soda bottle and a piece of flexible hose pipe, like garden hose that will stick on the top of the bottle firmly. Cut the bottom out of your bottle, stick the hose on top and instant siphon!

Parting with the 6 or 7 dollars the gravel siphon will fee you seems a better path of action. The time spent attempting to bathe the gravel by way of straining it is not nicely worth it, stresses out the fish, and kicks up lots debris in the tank. For a gravel siphon, you somewhat basically want a extensive diameter piece of versatile tubing. that would desire to not be costly.

All you need is a piece of hose and a bucket. Make sure the hose is large enough to filter the gravel but not to large that it sucks all the gravel out of the aquarium. immerse the hose completely under water and pull one end out end put it in the bucket (or put on end in and suck on the other side until you have a siphon going).

I'm sure you could order a siphon over the web, as they are a very common tool that can be found at any pet shop.

As you can tell by the other answers there really isn't anyway to do it. Without a siphon you wont even be able to empty the tank.

The other suggestions will work, but this has worked the best for me. Stab the gravel with a net so the sediment floats up. Then the filter (which should be on) will suck up all the sediment.

you can get a pasta strainer and just put small amouns of gravel and just rinse with warm water then it should be squeaky clean
