Can a group of say 2 week old platies be put in the same tank as a group 6 weeks old?

That shouldn't be a problem at all. They are still of fairly similar size.

If the platies are about the same size, you should have no problem. They are communial fish and will be fairly good-natured with each other. In case there is a dramatic difference in size, make sure sufficient hiding places are provided. Good Luck!!!
