I live in N. Ca and found a spider on the outside of my sliding glass door. It was probably about the size of a fifty cent peice (body and legs). It was furry, black with white rings around the joints of its legs. It had turqouise fangs. I've tried to search the internet for the type of spider, but have had no luck. Does anyone know what kind of spider this is? Is it poisonous? Does one, usually mean alot more?

When you see a spider described with colored 'fangs' (actually the 'fang-holders', which are called 'chelicerae'), and it's also furry, there's a pretty good chance it's a member of the Phidippus family of jumping spiders. Is the "front body" kind of blocky and rectangular, and the "back body" sort of tear-drop shaped? Does it turn to look at you as you move near it? Does it seem very alert? It may be Phidippus audax, a very common large jumper, but I don't recall these having white rings on the joints. Maybe it's a California thing. Audax has a large, sort of triangular, white or yellowish spot on the abdomen, with a couple smaller spots next to it.

This seems to be the Daring Jumping Spider:

They're not dangerous to humans, just to insects (which they hunt by pouncing on them, rather than using webs); they're probably endemic to your area.
