I went Salsa dancing Saturday night, and I was doing a spin and stepped on my own freakin toe! Is that embarrassing or what? And that's the second time in a week people laughed when I hurt my toes! Grrrrrrrr!

And yes, I have stepped on myself with tap shoes but only when practicing by myself--so I could carry on and be really dramatic without embarrassment! LOL

It happens to me too every now and then. Not so much stepping, but scraping my toe with my heel. Ouch! That's part of the learning process, nothing embarrassing about it. I fell more than once, too. I switched to wearing closed toe practice shoes when I'm learning new Latin choreography. I wear open toed shoes when I'm more familiar with the steps.
They laughed at you? That's mean.
Keeping a little bit of turnout will help you to avoid this problem. Your toes need to be at 45 degree angle. When spinning or turning, pivot on the floor surface, not within your knee or hip joint.

No, never stepped on myself (have kicked myself in the ankle and pretty hard). But I did once drop a partner on her toe--we were doing a Theatre Arts routine, and there was a little lift, it was nothing, just me behind her with my hands on her ribcage and up! as she does a kick and I set her down. Just that her dress was a little slippery, or maybe I didn't get a good enough grip, but she slipped through my fingers and she came down hard with the heel of her right foot on the big toe of her left foot. After which she grabs her toe with both hands and starts hopping around the floor on one foot--and everyone is looking at me like it was *my* fault. So, yes, I've seen the kind of thing you describe.
And sorry to say, Perdie and Snow, yes it's pretty funny to see someone bouncing around the floor on one foot like in a cartoon. To my credit, I checked to make sure she was okay first. But yes, I laughed. And I gave her grief about it for weeks afterwards. What can I say? I guess I'm mean.

As a matter of fact, I did step on my own toe about 2 weeks ago, also while salsa dancing! When I tell people how I come home from salsa with bruises the size of silver dollars on my arms and twisted ankles from people stepping on my ankles, they don't believe me.

I have tripped over my self when doing a hitch-kick and fell flat on my butt. Another time i stepped on my toe and broke my toe. One time I kicked my own finger and broke it. Also, at a competition I was walking on and i stepped on my toe and fell and broke my nose! Then I couldn't dance! I've had plenty of bad stories!

I have to. Fell over and pulled my date down with me. That was our first date. I broke her collar bone. Two years later we're still together. We don't go dancing any more.
