Hey PPC,

i think both are viable options for the Lakers, but there are a couple of key factors which would make Jason Kidd a more impact player than Mo Williams.

Defense: Jason Kidd is a much better defender than Mo Williams and Kidd can grab a rebound and push the ball up immediately which will help the Lakers with getting more transition baskets.

Consistency: Because of Kidd's age Jason would likely sign a two to three year contract- whereas Mo would likely want a longer contract (esp. because he just had a breakout year) and has yet to prove that he can average such numbers year in and year out.

Knowledge of the game: Although Mo averaged 6 assists- it's not just how many assists but a point guard's job is to quarterback the team. Jason Kidd knows how to get the ball to the best spot for the shooter. More than that when the Lakers struggle offensively they often have poor spacing- being one of the game's best (definitely in top 10 point guards of all-time) Kidd would get the respect necessary to move people to different spots. I don't think Mo Williams can do that.

Hunger: Jason Kidd has been on many playoff teams but part of coming to L.A. (if he could) would be for the opportunity to play for a ring. Mo Williams could get a fat contract and then just be complacent- he's never really won anything so no guarantee on that.

Experience: Kidd has a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio in the playoffs career. Mo Williams has never been in the playoffs.

Overall however, it depends on what the Lakers have to give up to get J. Kidd. They definitely need an upgrade at point guard- but they also need at least one other scorer and some different pieces off of the bench.

Go Lakers!

Jason Kidd would probably be a better fit for the Lakers, because of his passing and defensive capabilities. He would not only thrive in the triangle offense, but would allow the lakers to go out and run more on the fast break. His rebounding abilities make him one of the top guards in the nba. The only downside is his inconsistent outside shooting and his injury prone/broken down body. However, I think he has some good years in him still, and he can definitely help the Lakers at the PG spot. He would be a great compliment to Kobe, since Kidd doesn't jack up a ton of shots, and can spread the floor to hit that open 3 pointer.

Mo Williams would help the Lakers in terms of scoring, but he does not have the rebounding and defensive skills that Kidd possesses. He is unproven in terms of leadership and playoff experience. He is a great scorer, and could put up a lot of points at any given time, but do the Lakers really need that? The Lakers needs a defensive minded point guard that can stop the Nash/Davis/Parker/Billups of the league. Williams also averages a grip of turnovers, an area where the Lakers already struggle in.

Bottom line, Jason Kidd is a proven veteran and winner, and Phil Jackson likes bigger, defensive minded guards. Kidd is definitely worth the higher price tag.

I agree w/ you on that one, but I don't think Mo will want to leave, especially to play with an legendary ballhog like Kobe Bryant.

I think the Lakers should trade Kobe Bryant to New Jersey for Vince Carter. It would be a great trade for both teams. Not because I don't like kobe (who I do hate), but because of the style of play each athlete brings to the court.

Kobe can score better than VC, but he can't distribute. The Lakers need a respectable point guard like Jason Kidd if they want Kobe to be any type of a threat whatsoever. The problem with that is the Nets would have to be utterly stupid to get rid of J-Kidd now. Instead, the Lakers need to take the next step down and aquire a team player like Vince Carter while Kobe would be best off with the Nets because they have a PG who can get him the ball. The Lakers could also trade a couple non-factors for Mo Williams, with whom Vince Carter played for the Toronto Raptors.

Actually they don't need J.Kidd, they need a lot more than one person, unless it is KG. Mo Williams is a back up at best, however the triangle offense does not rely on a PG very heavily. So if they got J.Kidd then the triangle would suffer, so in my opinion it would hurt them more than it would help. However if they could land someone like Garnett, who would fit perfectly in the triangle with Koby, then they would be better off. But to answer your question, I would rather have J Kidd than Mo 99 times out of 100.

Because the Lakers need an unselfish guard that can defend and won't let anyone including any 8 year old kid in the crowd with a basketball get by their defenders into the paint that and he even wants to be a Laker. He also carried an EAST team to the finals and did amazingly well.

Because Jason Kidd brings all kind of numbers, while Moe Williams is a point guard who only got the numbers that he got because most of the bucks players got injured during the season(michael Redd,Bogut,Villanueva,Simmons, etc) and only Charlie Bell didnt get injured.
