Well, since I can only get one, I go with Green Lantern.

All the choices are good choices, but GL probably has the greatest degree of power and versatility of them, with the possible exception of Doctor Strange.

Of course, it would help to know what the menace coming to Earth is to begin with.

What are we saving it from? If it's a natural disaster sort of thing, I might pick Iron Man, or Supergirl. If it's a human criminal, Batman or Professor X would do the trick, Wolverine could probably hunt him down pretty well. If it's a superpowered villian or something, I'd duck behind Superman, Jean Grey or the Silver Surfer. You get the idea =)

I think it would depend on the nature of the threat.

As a general rule, I'd say Superman. But against a threat where physical prowess won't work, he'd be a poor choice.

Dr. Strange would be good if the threat were mystical.

Jean Grey could be a good choice, if it was during the Phoenix era.

Batman would make a good choice if the threat were more cerebral, as would Iron Man, aka Tony Stark or Professor X.

it really is amazingly difficult to inform, my gut feeling is that more effective ability became used than saved. Turning off your light fixtures for one hour saves a minimum quantity of ability. in spite of the indisputable fact that, understanding human nature, they did not merely sit down in the darkish doing no longer some thing. i'm effective human beings had plans to do some thing -- candlelight dinner, gathering with acquaintances, etc.-- i'm effective the flexibility fed on (travelling to purchase candles they did no longer have, etc.) making waiting for the events turned right into a hell of so a lot more effective than the flexibility saved from mild bulbs. those publicity stunts placate the ignorant.

Superman is probably the best suited to save the Earth but I'd have any of those guys on my team if I were faced with the threat of evil. He can turn the earth backwards for god's sake and go back in time.

Superman!
No contest!
When all the superheroes were in the skills/powers department, you had Flash going "well I'll take speed and become the fastest person on land!", Jean Gray said "I'll be psychic that sounds cool!", Wolverine went "I'll have a bit of super strength, super hearing and metal rods instead of bones!" and one by one they all went through their choices then Superman walks up and says, "Sod that! I'll have them all!" 8~P

He is not my favorite hero but the way they write Superman. He not only is your best choice. He has done it in the past the most times by far. While all great heroes none of them face a world ending situation as often as Superman.
