Unfortunately, Mean Boss does not fall under the protected class. How do you take action against your boss and/or when do you take action against your boss? I would like to assume that you could go to the higher boss, but when they are friends I'm sure that that option does not work.

This is such a misconception that one needs to be in a protected class to prove harassment. That's what I thought. If you are being singled out and no one else is being harassed in the same manner it may fall under sexual harassment. S.H. is not limited to a boss saying you have to sleep with them in order to get a promotion or keep your job. I am presently in the midst of suing my former employer due to harassment who is close friends with the demon (as I call him) who he hired to oversee the company operations. I complained of the abuse directly to the boss and not only did the abuse become progressively worse, but when I asked for a formal meeting in email. He replied with my termination. HELLO RETALIATION!!! You need to put everything in writing and file a formal complaint of the abuse with Human Resources (if there is such a department.) Make sure you have the complaint in writing when you submit to your boss or HR. If the abuse continues find yourself an employment lawyer. Make sure he/she doesn't charge for the initial consultation or any crazy amount per the hour (i.e., $500.00.)

Does the company you work for have an HR department. I would ask to have a meeting with them including your boss. I know its a little extreme and you may feel it will get you fired but only two things can happen you will have that d0cumented offically. You dont deserve treatment from anyboday and having a title of a boss doesnt give them the freedom to abuse their power. good luck

I would try to transfer to a different department, or find another job. Life is too short to be miserable at work.
