Anytime you have a service light on you should have it checked. The dealership and some other auto places will pull a check engine code for you for free but generally if they do it for free then all they will do is tell you the code and whats it means. that DOES NOT mean that this is the answer to the problem. Pulling the code gives a technician a general idea of where the problem is with the car. If a code was pulled for an oxygen sensor failure lets say, that doesnt nessicairly mean the o2 sensor is bad, it could be a wire thats bad making the 02 sensor not read. or a valve is not sending air to the 02 sensor. So i would suggest taking it somewhere where they will fully diagnose the car so you can get an estimate of how much it would be to fix as well so you can shop around. Engine codes are helpful but they DO NOT diagnose the problem. and i wouldnt suggest buying a tool to check engine codes. they are mighty expensive and unless u work on lots of your own cars quite frequently i wouldnt say its worth the money.

but as far as pulling an engine code it doesnt sound like your check engine light is on. If its just a service light it could be something as simple as a dirty air filter, or ur car is ready for an oil change. it could be reading your milage and your computer knows when the car needs a check up so it may be telling you that as well.

id suggest taking it into a shop, one you can trust or even a dealership and having someone find out what kind of service your car needs.

jetzt means 'now'...it's telling you to take it in and find out what's wrong.

You could go out and by a code reader for the computer plug in just to see what's the problem yourself. It could just be a dirty oxygen sensor. It could be a more serious problem or not. The thing is, you won't know and won't clear the light until you find out what is causing it.
