Ive searched the help forums and all the problems associated with Main Relays going bad seem to be happening to me, the only problem is I CANT FIND IT! where is it? i bought the car from private, huge mistake, but on the '93 you look for a silver box under the panel, but my car doesn't have it! is that not on the 98 accord? any help would be appriciated.

I hope its not the ignition switch. I've already recalled it, and had it replaced. the car doesn't turn off once its going, it just rarely starts in hot weather.

The main relay is behind the lower instrument panel cover to the left of the steering wheel. It is a 7 terminal connector and the relay is brown in color.

that being said, it is probably not your problem. I'm assuming the car doesn't start and you have no ignition (spark). Or, it only starts intermittantly. that is the 'classic' main relay problem on the 90-92 accords. On the 98 Accord, the same problems, plus stalling while your driving (but restarts immediately) are caused by a faulty ignition switch. The problem was the basis for a recall by Honda on the 98 Accord. I would suspect you have a bad ignition switch. Recalls last forever so I would call your Honda dealer and give them the Vehicle Identification Number from your car (17 digit number that is on your vehicle registration or insurance card) and they can check on-line to see if the recall has been done. If not, then have it done for your own safety.

as I mentioned earlier, the Main Relay would be extremely unlikely. The ignition switch is the first probability. If you can, give us more information on what you're trying to fix if the problem persists.

hope that helps

Stick with MadMike and wrenchhead. It's most likely the igniter in the distributor -- the key is that it's dying driving down the road. I have the same thing on my 98 accord. The main relays are often problems on hondas, but that's almost always a starting problem after sitting in the sun, not a stalling problem driving down the road. Also, having replaced honda distributors before, the aftermarket "remanufactured" ones generally suck, so I'd make sure to ask your mechanic to either get the igniter itself directly from a Honda dealer or make sure your after-market distributor is new, not reman'd. There's also a honda recall for the ignition switch (which can cause it to die) so maybe that's worth a shot since you can get it for free.

i had stalling troubles and had my main relay just hanging down
out of case so could measure with meter. when it wouldnt start
i found bat was ok from switch but no ground. it is on a dumb
connector over thermostat of all places. i wired my own ground
to main relay and that cured that problem although i still have other
trouble with what i suspect is their awful ignition switch
you can find schematic of main relay circuits on web and if
you squeeze the case and remove guts it can hang down ok but
take bat cable off first cause hits on brake bracket on way out
and blows fuse
